Description

Provide psychological services on behalf of students, as well as psychological and behavioral
consultation services to parents and professional staff. This is the internship level of the Licensed
Specialist in School Psychology role. The LSSP Intern is assigned as an itinerant to multiple locations.
Appropriate professional supervision is provided.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and enrollment in an approved University training program, with established
    readiness for and enrollment in the University’s designated internship experience course.
  • Curriculum and academic training leading to Licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners of
    Psychologists as a LSSP Practicum experience in public schools.
  • Requires skill in technical report writing and in developing interpersonal relationships with professional
    staff and students.
  • Requires a broad range of knowledge of behavioral intervention techniques.

 

Job Goals


1. Assist in implementation of programming for students with social, emotional or behavioral
difficulties.
2. Consult with parents, teachers and other staff about social, emotional, behavioral, or academic
difficulties.
3. Select and administer, within standardization, appropriate testing instruments and analyze testing
results. Write assessment reports within timelines.
4. Interpret assessment data for professional staff and parents.
5. Attend various types of team meetings for the purpose of interpreting psychological and
psychoeducational data and assisting with the development of the individual educational plan (IEP)
including behavior management plans. Facilitating meetings when needed.
6. Provide individual and group counseling to the identified students within the special education
populations.
7. Keep informed of and work within local, state, and federal guidelines in the delivery of school
psychological services.
8. Provide crisis intervention services to students and staff when needed.
9. Collaborate with professional psychological, medical, and social services personnel outside the
district to provide appropriate services for students.
10. Assist staff in implementing appropriate interventions to assist students with severe behavioral
disorders.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
