Position Summary:

In the absence of the Communication Instructional Aide, uses sign language to translate conversation for hearing impaired individuals, provides classroom and individual communications assistance. Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences as directed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills in the classroom.

 

Qualifications:

High School diploma or the Equivalent

ASL experience (Required)

Bachelor's degree (Preferred)

Teacher certification (Preferred)

 

At least one year of experience working with children

Instructional Strategies

9. Follow lesson plans that are provided.

10. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, an administrative regulations.

11. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education sutdents.

12. Work with other memebers of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, adn methods according to district reguirements.

13. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process if needed.

 

Student Growth and Development

14. Help students improve study methods and habits.

15. Conduct assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing as directed.

16. Assume repsonsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.  Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

17. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

 

Classroom Management and Organization

18. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

19. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

20. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

21. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

22. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

23. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

24. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), if any.

 

Salary:

Teacher- Non Degreed - $85.00/day Teacher- Bachelor's Degree - $110.00/day Teacher- Certified - $135.00/day
