Primary Purpose
The Academic Dean shall report to the Principal and assists in the organization, administration, and supervision of campus and district aligned academics, classroom personnel as well manage the campus testing programs including STARR, norm-referenced testing; special populations and end of course test; interpret and utilize testing results.
Educational Qualifications and Prerequisites
· Master's Degree
· Mid-Management or Principal Certification
· Minimum of 5 years teaching
· Minimum of 3 years campus level leadership experience or curriculum/instruction leadership preferred
· Leadership experience in staff development, curriculum and assessment preferred
· Certified appraiser for state/district approved teacher appraisal system
Special Knowledge/Skills:
· Demonstrated knowledge of best classroom practices related to teaching and learning.
· Demonstrated knowledge of state, and local rules and regulations related to curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
· Demonstrated knowledge of the instruments and data utilized for testing and the ability to ensure appropriate administration by teachers.
· Demonstrated ability to analyze test and assessment data development of Campus Improvement Plans.
· Demonstrated ability to track indicators and develop action plans to address areas needing improvement.
· Ability to utilize related technology and instructional based software

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
10. Monitors and assists teachers in the planning and implementation of curriculum, goals, and objectives to provide effective learning experiences for each student.
11. Observes teachers in their classrooms, evaluates performance, and provides feedback.
12. Supervises Grade Level Facilitators in the monitoring and implementation of curriculum and achievement guidelines.
13. Assists in interviewing and selecting campus instructional staff.
14. Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing staff development programs for teachers to raise the level of instructional performance.
15. Coordinates the student assessment program and in disseminating and interpreting test data relating to the overall instructional program.
16. Works closely with Curriculum & Instruction staff to improve instructional delivery and assists in coordinating remedial and special programs (At-Risk, Compensatory Education, Title 1, Bilingual, Special Education., CTE) with the regular program.
17. Assists with the planning, coordination, and monitoring of student scheduling.
18. Assists in developing campus budgets relating to staff development, curriculum and instruction.
19. Assists in coordination of planning and implementation of instructional technology program.
20. Conducts conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
21. Assists in developing and implementing appropriate teaching methodologies in the classroom.
22. Assists with developing and monitoring the School Improvement Plan and Master schedule.
23. Analyzes teacher and campus made tests for relevancy, appropriateness, and content.
24. Actively seeks to improve course offerings, instructional delivery, and proven strategies to increase student achievement.
25. Assists with the planning and implementation of programs and activities for campus parent involvement.
26. Directs testing services to meet students’ needs.
27. Applies research and district studies and improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching learning process.
28. Facilitates the use of technology in the testing process.
29. Serves as a resource person in testing services to campus.
30. Ensures that testing services are supportive of the instructional goals of the district.
31. Demonstrates skills in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, and staff.
32. Provides for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, and parents.
33. Deals sensitively and fairly with persons with diverse culture backgrounds.
34. Keeps the Principal informed on the testing affairs of the campus.
35. Uses a collaborative decision-making process and problem solving technique, when appropriate.
36. Contributes to the recommendations of sound policies directed toward program improvement.
37. Works cooperatively with others to ensure compliance with federal and state assessment regulations as well as with SISD Board Policy.
38. Pursues professional development through reading, attending conferences, and involvement with related agencies.
39. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and serve as a role model for all district staff.
40. Obtains knowledge of measurement, various types of testing, purposed of testing and feasible methods of obtaining achievement information.
41. Works with administration for summer school programs as assigned.
42. Performs other duties that may be assigned by the principal.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assist the principal with supervising and evaluating the performance of teachers, academic specialists and support staff.
