Primary Purpose:

 

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout district. Perform skilled, duties in the installation, repair, adjustment and changing of key and combination locks, door closures and related hardware; and perform related duties as assigned.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

General:  

  1. Installation, repair and maintenance of commercial lockable hardware such as automatic electric doors, windows, lockers and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of facilities.
  2. Ability to work on electrical products including strikes, holders, card readers, mag locks, electric exit devices, etc. 
  3. Overhauls, adjusts and installs door closers, panic bars and emergency opening or alarm equipment.
  4. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on locks and hardware including cleaning, lubricating and tightening parts.
  5. Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment including pin kits, key machines, drill motors, mortise machines, grinders, sanders, torches, saws, installation jigs, and a personal computer.
  6. Responds to emergency calls involving fire or general maintenance work; responds to emergency key needs when keys are lost or locks are broken; issues keys to contractors as required. 
  7. Ability to adjust door in frames.
  8. Ability to re-key locks and keep accurate key records.
  9. Ability to identify and repair locks, desks, file cabinets, lockers, etc.
  10. Ability to follow instructions.
  11. Ability to complete assignments in a timely and workable manner.
  12. Ability to get along with others.
  13. Ability to adjust door closers.
  14. Ability to work on fire doors.
  15. Ability to ready blue prints.
  16. Ability to work on overhead doors.

Maintenance and Repair

 

  1. Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass. 
  2. Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
  3. Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
  4. Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by maintenance foreman.
  5. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
  6. Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
  7. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
  8. Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.
  9. Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.
  10. Install ceiling and flooring materials.

 Driving

 

  1. Drive in various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, and poor visibility. 

 

Safety

 

  1. Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
  2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  3. Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
  4. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, welder (gas and electric air), concrete mixer, mower, weed trimmer, blower, edger, and garden tools.

Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside.
