Primary Purpose:

 

The Homebound Teacher, under the direction of the Director of Special Education, participates as a member of the instructional staff in planning for teaching, motivating students, developing classroom climate, managing the classroom, interacting with pupils and evaluating pupils. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of subjects assigned

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

At least one year student teaching or approved internship

  1. Demonstrates tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors in the district.

 

Instructional Strategies

 

  1. Plans the long and short range objectives for assigned courses.

 

  1. Develops lesson plans with the appropriate TEKS by coordinating with campus teachers or by using District frameworks.

 

  1. Insures that student and teacher will have adult supervision during class sessions.

 

  1. Collects and uses a variety of information to guide the growth and development of individual pupils.

 

  1. Demonstrates effective teaching methods and selects appropriate teaching materials using a variety of activities to develop student interest and performance.

 

  1. Establishes standards for individual pupils in terms of ability levels.

 

  1. Creates a classroom climate conducive to pupil intellectual, social, emotional, and moral development.

 

  1. Manages pupil behavior and activities to allow for learning.

 

  1. Evaluates and provides feedback on pupil performance continuously by utilizing a variety of sources to insure mastery of the essential elements.

 

  1. Teaches for cognitive, affective, and/or psychomotor learning and transfer.

                                   

  1. Administers appropriate standardized tests, i.e., TAKS, SDAA, class tests or other evaluations.

 

  1. Develops and updates per the student Individual Educational Program (IEP).

 

  1. Maintains accurate student accounting records and other reports in compliance with local and state requirements.

 

  1. Participates in in-service workshops.

 

  1. Participates in extracurricular activities as assigned.

 

  1. Plans for and engages in professional development.

 

  1. Participates in the planning, presentation, and evaluation of various school activities.

 

  1. Confers with pupil’s regular teachers to insure continuity of instruction.

  1. Coordinates attendance accounting with the appropriate person.

 

  1. Maintains a current teacher’s daily schedule in the Special Education office.

 

Other

 

  1. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

 

  1. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

 

Ability to lift and/or carry moderate weight (15-44 pounds), sit, stand, walk, climb stairs or ladder, reach, repetitive hand motions, hear, speak, travel within the District and occasionally outside the district/county, may experience prolonged and irregular work hours, and work with frequent interruptions.
